UNUSUAL AND INTERESTING PHOTOS

PART 1
1. My first reaction was "woahhh" like what made him think to do that?, like it's really creative that he thought of that and i'm wondering how he thought of that.

2. I think he took the photo and went into photoshop and copied the original buildings then cropped the copied one and rotated it.

3. When i first saw the buildings he was doing it made me think that the frost bank building in downtown would be great to do this because its one of the main buildings in the austin skyline.

PART 2
1.

PART 3
1. Photographers should look for that one moment, create your own memory and story in your head while taking the picture, try to see one thing but take the picture and be surprised to see something else are suggestions photographers should think of while shooting. It's also important for the photographer to make sure to grab attention in the photos.

2.

3.

4.  By the photo, theres a story thats being told but also a memory that you could tell for ages. This picture shows that the photographer is following the rules fully. Maybe the cops just learned they'll be moving up to sergeants or maybe the guy looking away was telling him some weird news.

5. I think the paintings that show quiet moment that no one can tell what they are until you look closely and see if theres a story involved within the painting. Those paintings really capture me into the painting with them, it makes me want to be in the painting and know whats going on at that moment.

ACADEMICS AND COMMUNITY SERVICE

The photo i choose is in the background theres a girls with science glasses on with a red rim on top, she's holding a bottle of pink dye i'm guessing and shes puring it into this black tub thing and in the middle looks like pink paint being thrown up and splattering.

1. I choose this photo because of the pink paint being thrown up in the air, to me it's really amazing that the photographer caught this moment of the paint in the air and her reaction.

2. I'd say balance becuase the pink paint is really in focus but the girls balances it out.

FILLING THE FRAME

The students are framing the foggy table with them sticking out their hands to touch the fog, the table is framed by students in the science lab.

ACTION AND EMTION

This picture shows happiness and silliness, the students seem to be teasing and joking around with the teacher which is making him laugh and them to smile.

BEST STORY

This tells the best story because of the emotion shown on their faces and the actions they're doing, the story in this picture could be that one cold morning, volunteers went down to help serve food to the need, and maybe one of homeless people told the server how much this meant to them and it made the servers day.

GREAT BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPHERS PART 2

BIOGRAPHY!
On June 16, 1917 in Plainfield, N.J, Irving Penn was born, he was educated by public schools and later on he attended Museum of Art in Philadelphia from 1934-1938. Penn's first job was graduating in 1938 as an art director for the Junior league magazine, he later on quit and used some saved money to go to Mexico, at the age of 25. Penn later on returned to New York and got and assistant job for Alexander Liberman, the art director for Vogue magazine. A picture of an arranged big brown leather bag, beige scarf, gloves, lemons, oranges, and a huge topaz that Penn took was published as Vogues october issue in 1943 and started Penn's career. He mainly did portraits but threw in some creative stuff from time to time, his portraits where series he did around the world like Peru, London, Paris and New York. Penn started to use his Rollel and made 200 portraits in color and black and white, in a studio he rented from an artist. In the 1950's he founded his own studio in NY, he worked on fashion, commercial and his own personal work for the rest of his career. A lot of his series where mainly for Vogue, like his christmas editions. Penn died in 2009 which spread his work all over the world in famous museums and later on in 2013 the Irving foundation donated 100 images to the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

MANIPULATIONS

A. This manipulation was the worst to me because they didn't even use Oprah's real body for the article they used Ann Margaret's body for this picture and Oprah's head. The photographer probably didn't ask Oprah to do a photo shoot for the magazine. Using someone else's body is practically saying Oprah's is not good enough on the front cover of this magazine. That probably hurt Oprah really bad on the inside. This is very unethical and very wrong to do, if Oprah is the richest woman on Tv then show us why, show us the real Oprah and not someone who is photo shopped.

B. Every one of those manipulated photos is bad, but the least unethical one to me is this one because the length of how close or how far away the pyramids are from each other doesn't really matter. It's not a life changing thing or something to make a debate about, the photo before was probably amazing but when the person pushed them together they helped with the camels being in front of them and getting an eyeful. It's not a great thing to do but I wouldn't have even noticed if i bought this magazine because I don't know how close they originally are, but it's not a threat to the world.

ETHICS IN DIGITAL MANIPULATION

A. This story talks about how journalist in the middle east like to manipulate others peoples photos on aprils fools and risk losing their jobs. Menahem Kahana took a photo of the new cabinet and was shown in a ultra-Orthodox Jewish newspaper, but someone messed with the photo and changed two girls in the photo to men to make it an all male cabinet. The people who mess with photos and change them get fired and get all their photos ever taken dismissed from where they work at.
B. It's not acceptable at all because the photographer took that one picture for a reason, capturing the moment and telling the people what happened but actually showing them with a picture, but when these people disrupt the photo then it's not whats showing what really happened.

PHOTO SHOOT REFLECTION

1. For me metal was the hardest, while there is a lot of metal in bowie i wanted to do something that people didn't first notice when you walk into bowie. Square was also pretty tough sense you could make anything in a photo square so i walked around until something really caught my eye. Bowie was somewhat easy but also complected because anyone could take a picture of the bowie sign or just the hallway but i wanted to get the view of the "campus" so i tried doing that from a higher view. Happy was the easiest because a lot of things around bowie makes me happy like the flowers in the front.
2. While taking the pictures i thought about holding the camera in unique angles to get my pictures coming out good which meant laying down on the ground and pointing the camera up, also gently pressing the button to get the focus i wanted in the photo, like what i wanted to show and what i didn't.
3. If i could do it differently i would try and be more creative with my pictures and think of places around school people don't think of.
4. The one thing i would do the same is defiantly be unique with my photos and try to think of amazing angles and framing i could do.
5. I didn't really learn anything new but i did use rule of thirds and framing the most.
6. I'm very interested in doing the happy and bowie prompt again because i got the most excited when i shooting pictures for them.

STEP 2:http://anaphototjournalismblog.blogspot.com/

STEP 3: i love the bowie photo because i would of never thought of going into the library and shooting there i also love the focus on the dog. For the happy photo it amazing because you can tell it's not modeled or fake, it's like she was just walking around and they where laughing so she captured the moment.

STEP 4: One thing that could be changed is the lighting on the square photo, it's not that hard to tell what it is but i think it could of been at a better angle with better lighting.

MERGE

MERGE
This was defiantly avoiding merges, because of the bright yellow bike there was nothing for it to blend in with the background.

SQUARE

SQUARE

BOWIE

BOWIE
This was balance for the photo because i wanted to get a fullish view of the bowie "campus" and not really make anything a full focus but the whole thing as the focus.

METAL

METAL
This photo was supposed to be rule of thirds but i kind of failed to make that happen, because of the angle i really wanted. So i ended up trying to do simplicity for this photo.

HAPPY

HAPPY
I really tried to balance this photo and also avoid merges to really put the focus on the flower and the rain drops on top.

AVOIDING MERGERS

Avoiding merges shows in this picture because none of the colors of the main focus blend into the background of the picture. No one is cropped out the picture except her leg and his shoulder but it doesn't show that much because your paying attention to him carrying her and what's happening.

FRAMING

This is a great eample of framing because of the ground zero aftermath surrounding the two working in the picture. They're walking on top on the disaster but they're in the middle of it with all the trash around them, it's framing them in. It would be different if the workers where in the corner of the disaster and not the middle.

BALANCE

Balance really shows in this picture by the officers in blue hugging a guy also in blue but covered in dust, and the background isn't taking away from the main focus but the other people in the photo surrounding the two hugging doesn't take away either. It all blends in together nicely.

LINES

This picture shows the lines rule really well because the lines on the buliding lead up to the people trying to jump out of the windows. When you look at the picture you see the people jumping out but then you see the lines leading up to people you didn't notice when you first saw it.

THE RULE OF THIRDS

Rule of thirds fits perfect with this picture because of the fireman's head which is in the right under corner, it's by the flag which could also be leading lines but I choose rule of thirds because the mans head is what stood out to me and his expression.

SIMPLICITY

I choose for simplicity because of how well the background fits around the focus of the man coughing, it's still noticeable to see whats behind him but it doesn't take away from the main part of the picture.

THE CAMERA

The Camera
1) The camera Obscura is achieved by The that acted as the lens, it was focusing and projecting light onto the wall of the dark room.

2) Isaac Newton and Christian Huygens finally understood optics and the process of making high quality glass lenses.

3) In 1827 Niepe added film to create the first successful photo, the parts where a glass lense, a dark box, and film.

4) The cameras both have light pass through the lens in the camera, and exposes the film.

5) Digital cameras use digital film, the camers capture the images with an electronic sensor called a CCD. The photos are stored on a reusable computer memory card.

Camera Modes
6) Auto mode will control the flash and exposure for you, ( AUTO, A), Program mode is automatic assist, all you have to do is point and shoot. You can control the flash and exposure. (P)

7) Portrait is used for the attempt to blur out the background, how is works is that the camera will use the fastest lens setting available (aperture).

8) Sports mode is used to freeze the motion in the picture, it works by the camera using the hight shutter speed thats possible.

The Half Press
9) You should do a half press on the trigger button because it helps you with more control of focus, better composition, and faster camera response time.

Controlling Flash
10) This symbol means the flash is off, it's disabled. You would this when you don't want a flash to help the mood of the photo be more dramatic.

11) This symbol means Auto-flash, it's automatically going to flash. This is used by default, it will automatically flash if the camera thinks the photo needs more light.

Introduction to Exposure
12) When theres too much light the photo will become washed out.
13) When theres not enough light the photo will become too dark.

The Universal Stop
14) A stop is a relative change in the brightness of light, it's used in every aspect of photography.
15) 1 stop
16) 2 stops

Shutters and Aperture
17) A longer shutter speed shines more light through the camera lens.
18) A shorter shutter speed shows less light through the camera lens.
19) The aperture controls the light that comes through the camera. It's like a pupil on the camera.
20) When you adjust the aperture, you can increase the light by setting it on a lower number like f2.8.

Great black and white photographers

1) Ivring Penn

2) William Klein

1) Arnold Newman

FIRST DAY PHOTOS

1)

2)

3)

4)

The first photo I took was actually my favorite, because the sign shows where I am around school, and I think it's really cool that we have the 2nd best tree in Austin. The second photo I took I don't really like it at all mainly because i wish it was more focused on Claire but it's a little burly on her face because of the sunlight. The third one of the academic building isn't the best, i like it but i don't really love it because i don't feel it captures anything, i took it because i thought it would show bowie with no students and the building at peace. Number four i actually really like because it's bowie when it's calm and where students sit around all day but it's calm i think what makes it a good photo is the repetition with the little domes.
