OPNINONS STORY

Is a lie better then the truth?
By: Yelenna James

It may not be news that everyone lies, big lies and little white lies, people lie to try and help people or avoid of someone getting hurt by the truth. That doesn’t mean it’s all right to lie for any reason.

Some people may think the truth is the worst thing in the world, because it’ll get them in trouble, like a teenager trying to hide his or her grades. Or a best friend trying to stay out of drama.

I know from experience every time I told a lie, it came back and gave me karma, it could have been any lie but the truth would have been better.

Even parents tell lies, they may tell their children that they’re the smartest child ever or maybe that hair cut suits them, when it really doesn’t. I know the parents are trying to make their kids feel bright but don’t say something that could blow up in the future.

Those kids would grow up with the biggest ego, but that ego could be blown any second, just by the white lie they where told as a kid.

I would say in a relationship that’s where lies are told the most. With the cheating, cooking, looks, and stuff they have in common. Relationships are broken up just because of one lie or tons.

Maybe it’s the boyfriend saying those jeans don’t make you look fat or maybe it’s the girlfriend saying she loves his or her cooking.

It’s a known fact that guys lie more then girls do.  Also that 82% of lies that are told go undetected. Most people think you can tell if a person is lying by the shift of their eyes but that is just a myth.

Know I know people who lie would use excuses saying I didn’t want to hurt you or see you upset. Or I didn’t want to get in trouble knowing this.

Well at least if I had known the truth I would have been able to get over it faster and do something about it.

I guess excuses like that I could see why people would lie but by telling the truth it would probably wouldn’t cause so much drama and make the situation worse.

Another group of people that would lie the most on this earth are politicians. They try and say all these things that they could do to make this country better. It’s a fact that more than 70 Donald trump statements are false. Hilary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are in a tie for 28% on telling the actual truth. Bill Clinton has told the truth more then our President Obama.

They try and get our attention, and most of the time it works, but these politicians are getting people’s hopes up with all they’re saying and then let them down when people find out it was all a lie.

Don’t be a liar liar pants on fire.

THE MERHER PHOTO

1. I think the ground levels look a little off, so that could be a problem, trying to get the right height for each photo, because the ground looks like it's slanted and going downhill.

2. On Bowie campus i think in front of the school would be a great place or maybe lined up in front of the pillers outside. A pretty cool on would be on the bleachers but that would be difficult.

3. A creative thing to do in the photo would be make different dance moves for each picture or tell a story with only 7 pictures would be creative, like dress up in each different picture to tell the story.

4. You could wear costumes for the story like for sleeping beauty for example, dress up as the prince, sleeping beauty, a fairy etc. For the dancing one you could wear but you would typically wear for that type of dance, like hip hip wear a plaid shirt tied around the hips and ballet wear a tutu.

HDR PHOTOS

WARM UP

1. My favorite is a vertical picture of New York City and the way it's angled shows the buildings lined up and the trees in the way and the taxis going up and down the street.

2. Most of them i could see them being taken away but then the ones with amazing focus and lighting just blows my mind on how it was taken with an Iphone, like the view above new york city looking down on the buildings or the panoramas of the mountain and the surfer standing off to the side and the amusement park.

3. The apps they must have used i think made a huge impact on the photos, to get that perfect lighting and to clean up some fuzzy in the photos, they could of changed the color levels on some of the photos or put a filter on it.

4. Two tips that could help me with photography on my phone would be to use some sort of tri pod for the phone so you have a steady picture, and make sure the picture looks professional and that it doesn't look like it was taken on a phone.

HDR PHOTOGRAPHY

1. You'd need to change the shutter speed and make the perfect aperture combination and have an AEB function.

2. To take these kind of photos you want to use a tripod to have a steady photo and it's angled properly and use a HDR software that blends the photos you take into an HDR photo.

3. People could take HDR photos for multiple reasons but one of them is that a photographer couldn not like one of the photos they took, maybe the lighting was off or they didn't get the color contrast they wanted. So they make it into a HDR by blending all the photos with the different exposure levels.

4. We will see both dark and light dynamic range, it's really hard to get that into just one picture. You'll see both dark and light colors pop out of the photo. We'll also expect them to

WARM UP FINAL

For my final I be shooting my dad working for his business on the weekend, this will be shot all over Austin wherever he needs to go for work. I want to capture what it's like to run your own business and work on the weekends, I will probably shoot this assignment this weekend or maybe next weekend depending on his schedule. The equipment I'll use is the cannon we have at home and a tripod at certain times, and maybe my phone to get some footage of him throughout the day. I want to put the video portion in the middle, meaning about for the middle of the day and for the still pictures i want to use them throughout the video to make them scattered. My narration will be at the end of the video describing my dads day.

PORTFOLIO ANALYSIS

-Travis haughton
- Genetic Condition/deaf
- No signs in the pictures, some photos looked too set up, and the quality wasn't the best
- The sports photos they loved and some of the kid ones because of the expressions
- Some of the photos looked too set up and i liked the deaf kid with his friends living life.

- Josh Birnbaum
- Stories
- they wish he could of shown more faces in the photos, focus needs work on and his transition between photos wasn't good
- He has very nice lightening, and his good details
- I liked the humor photos but some photos didn't match the story or were too simple and didn't show anything.

- Jordan Murph
- sports
- he has missing elements, boring pictures, and his stories were bad
- they loved the creative bubbled on the swimmer, and his good composition
- I didn't like how most of the photos looked like they where taken from a phone and he wasn't really trying with his stories.

-Dustin snipes
- nice color, they loved his composition, he was great on capturing the moments. and he was right involved in the action
-i saw he was super creative with his photos and he used great color and lighting.

-The winner was chosen by looking at each and every persons context sheet which is a layout of all their photos so they can look back at their stories.

- i agree with the judges about the girl in the pool shaped as a circle, the subject is well focused and it's well light the photo also has a nice pattern to it. The story is well thought out and concentrated. The idea of the photo was great, it was really creative and outstanding,

- i disagreed with the basketball photo in black and white, the lighting seemed a little off to me but the angle wasn't well adjusted, it just wasn't a good photo to me i felt like the photographer could of done it better with the details.

ARCHITECTURE SHOOT

ANGLES AND SHAPES
Anything other than a right angle or a rectangular shape is worth photographing, and right angles can even be interesting if photographed well. Buildings are a collection of shapes. Photographers should look at them that way and emphasize interesting geometry whenever possible.

SSURROUNDINGS
Buildings exist in a setting, and that setting helps to define the story of the building. Is the building in harmony with its surroundings or does it stick out like a sore thumb. If your shooting a wide exterior shot of a building, try to show how it interacts with the surroundings. Consider framing the building with its surroundings.

DETAILS
Wide shots of the entire building often don't give you a full sense of the character of a structure. The best way is often to get close (either literally or with telephoto lens) and get nice shots of the little details that make a building special.

LIGHTING
The way that light interacts with and travels through a building is a big part of the mood of a building. By finding areas where natural and artificial light create dramatic scenes, and photographing these with a slow shutter speed (tripod is helpful) a photographer can capture the light as it defines the building.

PATTERN
Repeated patterns often define the large interior and exterior spaces of a building. By framing a shot so as to maximize the effects of repeated lines, structures and shapes, a photographer can capture the visual rhythm of a building.

ARCHITECTURE PREVIEW

NAUTILUS HOUSE, MEXICO
1. Javier senosiain of Arquitectura Organica
2. Was built in 2006
3. It's located in Mexico city
4. It's a private house
5. I couldn't find any
6. A young couple with children was living in a conventional home and was tired of it and wanted to live in some that had to do with nature.
7. I picked this building bc it reminds of something from Alice in Wonderland, It's so unique and creative and weird but in a good way. The idea of it seems so crazy but the artictect actually made it work, with different levels and a working bathroom. The inside is crazy like it's outside, but actually inside, from the outside it looks a little small but it's really big on the inside. The bathroom looks the coolest to me, the spout for the shower looks like something from Dr.seus and the sink as well.

CUBIC HOUSES, NETHERLANDS
1. Piet Blom
2. 1977
3. Rotterdam, Netherlands
4. They're are private homes
5. I couldn't find any
6. Piet wanted to give the concept of "living as an urban roof"
7. I picked this place because of the name and then when i saw the houses i was intrigued. The idea of living in a cube, but also not really living in a cube is crazy, i want to know how he came up with the idea on the spot. The way they're lined up is the weirdest, it's like something from minecraft. From the outside they like gigantic and so fascinating, it makes me want to get inside a giant cardboard box and picture what it's like.

STONE HOUSE GUIMARAES PORTUGAL
1.
2. 1974
3. Guimaraes, Portugal
4. It's a private home, but the owner moved somewhere else because of the incoming visitors and vandalism.
5. I couldn't find any
6. It was inspired by the Flintstones cartoon
7. I picked this because of the Cartoon becoming a reality and how cool it is that someone thought to do this. When i read that it has a swimming pool and a working fireplace i was highly intrigued. It also reminds of Shrek the movie when Fionia went in the cave and moved  rock wall on the outside. It's so unique and strange looking but adorable at the same time, I would want to visit it someday.

1. SzotyÅ„scy & Zaleski
2. built in 2004
3. sopot, switzerland
4. It's a public building, welcomed to visitors
5. could not find any
6. It was inspired by a fairytale and drawings by Jan Marcin Szancer and Per Dahlberg
7.  I chose this picture because it looked unreal, it was like i had to see it to believe it. I could't imagine what it would be like on the inside but this photo makes me feel like it came out of a Dr.Seus story. This house reminded me of the upside down house in Orlando, Florida.

SCULPTURED HOUSE

1. charles deaton
2. 1963
3. Genesee Mountain
4. This is a private home
5. I couldn't find how much it was to make
6. Charles was standing high on the mountain and loved how it connected with nature so he wanted to build something that reached high.
7. I picked his house because when i looked it up and saw how it was made it reminded me of the house in Charlie Angels and i thought it was very modern looking but also spacey looking. The fact that it looks like a taco with no straight angles or stiff arches gives it a really unique effect.

SENSORY OVERLOAD

1. I think this statement says a lot but also says a little. I agree with the statement saying we are defining our environments as the things we buy and where we buy them, in buildings. This makes me think that my photography is based more upon objects rather then the real environment in between.

2. I really did want to take my camera and visit these places, i was amazed by how much color there was. I wanted to go see for myself how much color and objects i can put in one photo.

3. I feel like the child would be overwhelmed, the parents would always be working and stocking and when your older they would make you do the same. To be the child would be hard, they would always want to spend time with the parents but they're busy, but i'm sure some points are good like getting free toys maybe.

4. My favorite photo is the store with all the inflatable balls pop, i see all the reds, pinks, greens, yellows on the balls and all the different characters on the balls. Theres even balls hanging in nets from the celling, there's a guy looking bored on his phone and a lady working at the desk talking to a different lady. The store is covered from head to toe in inflatable balls.

FRONT PAGES OF THE WORLD

1. My favorite newspaper front page is from New York called The Buffalo News, because the news stories on it are the most interesting to me and it's one of the ones where they write about the Grammy's from last night.

2. My favorite headline from this front is the "Mini brains show promise in research",  i found it interesting because of the mini brains in the title and it made me want to read about what mini brains are making promises of research.

3. Three stories on the front are my favorite.

4. They all have a giant picture with the main story on the front, and have a few tiny summaries of other stories and some small pictures. Usually the smaller pictures and small paragraphs are at the bottom in a corner.

5.  Some fronts will have a giant picture for the main story but doesnt have the story but has a sentence explaining the picture and says which page the story is on, or sometimes the front will have the big story and a smaller picture with it instead of a big one for space of other stories and pictures.

PROMT SHOOT PEER REVIEW

http://jmaphotojnews.blogspot.com/2016/01/photo-shoot.html?showComment=1453304178577#c6248641002395254520

1. Which photo do you like best? Why? I like the tater tot one the best because of the simplicity of it, it's just one tot on the ground.

2. Which is your least favorite image? Why? My least favorite it the pause, it's a god image but to me it's not really pausing because of the movement of hanging the sign.

3. Overall, make two positive statements about their pictures. The lighting in the pictures are great. The focusing on the picture is amazing you can really see the photo clearly.

4. Overall, what is one area that this person could improve upon in your opinion. I think just thinking about the prompt more in my opinion.

5. Which prompt do you think they did the best portraying, from your perspective? I think the best was the footprints, she showed the focus in on his shoes/feet and showed his steps as he was walking.

6. Which prompt do you think they did the least successfully portray, from your perspective? The sign one, i can't really tell that shes pausing or what it has to do with pausing because of the movement of hanging the sign.
